The continental championships start tomorrow in Egypt, and the super eagles of Nigeria is participating in the tournament after missing out on two editions.

The last time out at AFCON the super eagles were champions in 2013. Since then the super eagles has gone on to miss the 2015 and 2018 edition respectively.


Can the super eagles achieve the same feat they did in 2013. Here we look at the greatest XI to feature for the super eagles at the tournament.


Goalkeeper


Vincent Enyeama


Vincent Enyeama made his international debut against Kenya in 2002, He has then went on to represent Nigeria in 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2013 editions of the tournament.
Nigeria finished in 3rd place at the 2004, 2006 and 2010 editions, But eventually crown champions in 2013.


In 2006, Enyeama save three penalty kick against Tunisia in the quarter final but eventually lost to Ivory Coast in the semi final. Again in 2010 Enyeama was the penalty hero and he scored the winning penalty kick himself. In 2013 he was named the Goal keeper of the tournaments and he was the captain of the team.

Centre Back


Taribo West


Taribo West made his first appearance against Sweden in 1994. He won gold in 1996 summer Olympics. Taribo West made his appearance at the 2000 Afcon where the super eagles were the runner up.


Joseph Yobo


Joseph Yobo was the captain of Nigeria when the super eagles emerge the champions of Africa at 2013 editions. He made his debut in 2002 edition of the Afcon and he was included in the best African XI for 2007-08 season at CAf awards.


Christian Chwuku


Christian “chairman” Chukwu is inarguably the greatest Nigerian defender of all time.
As a player, he became the captain of Enugu Rangers football club and the Nigeria national team in the late 1970s. He was the first Nigerian captain to lift the African Nations Cup trophy after a 3-0 victory over Algeria in the final of the 1980 tournament.

He played in three consecutive African nations cup from 1976 to 1980. He represented Nigeria from 1975 – 1981 playing 52 games and scoring 5 goals.

Efe Ambrose


Ambrose was a regular at 2013 edition of the Nations Cup which the Super Eagles won. He was one of the most impressive player for the super eagles, he started five out of six matches and he was also included in the team of the tournament.


John Obi Mikel


Mikel made his debut 2005, and he was included in the 2006 nations cup squad.
Mikel was a key player at the 2013 edition of the Nations Cup and eventually went on to win the trophy and made it 3 times the eagles has won the cup. He was named in the team of th me tournament that year.


Austine Jay Jay Okocha


Okocha made his debut at world cup qualifiers against Ivory Coast in 1993. He was named in 1994 Afcon squad which the super eagles went on to win. He was also pivotal in the 1996 Olympics which Nigeria won at Atlanta Games. He later feature at the Afcon 2000 edition which he score 3 goals and also at the 2004 and 2006 editions.


Sunday Oliseh


Oliseh featured for the super eagles 63 times and scored 3 times during the course of his playing days for the super eagles.
He was part of the winning squad at Afcon in 1994. And he also won Gold for Nigeria at the 1996 summer games.
He was voted as the third African best player in 1998.


Finidi George


Finidi George made his debut in 1991 against. Burkina Faso and providing 3 assist. And he scored once in that match.
He was part of the winning team at 1994 edition of the Afon in Tunisia. He went on to earned 62 cap for the national team.


Victor Moses


Victor Moses was called up to the national team to represent the country at the Afcon 2013. Moses scored to two crucial penalties to ensure Super Eagles progress to the next stage. He was later included in the team of the tournament.


Rashidi Yekini


Yekini is the country record goal scorer. He was part of the squad that won the 1994 Afcon, and he was the highest goal scorer of the tournament and he also won the best player of the tournament.
