Gernot Rohr has given by far the strongest hint of who the two
players he will axe from a provisional squad of 25 players for the 2019 AFCON.
“We have a lot of strikers, which is good. Other teams are
searching for centre-forwards and we have three of them and one of them has to
go. I could drop one striker and one midfielder,” the Eagles coach hinted at a
media briefing today in Asaba.
He again admitted that with all call-ups at the top of their game
and giving everything in training, it will not be easy to name his final squad
for the tournament.
However, he added that he hopes to use this week’s training
sessions in Asaba, Saturday’s friendly against Zimbabwe, the form of the
players during the qualifiers as well as at their club to come up with the best
squad to represent Nigeria at the AFCON.
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been widely
speculated to miss the trip to Egypt after he struggled in the Premier League
this past season.
